CA vs. Ci Official OGL DOM Match

Prepare yourself for undeniably funny wit and astute observations! This is my second writeup so forgive me if you find it inferior to the might novel that Darkwulf has created. We played a crazy game tonight our first game actually in the OGL Domination ladder. We had made many challenges up to this point, but at the mere thought of actually playing against us forced our opponents to cower in fear and forfit. Not Ci however, they saw us as prey, and pounced. Before we knew what happened we had been challenged and our #2 position as well as our undefeated record (0/0) was in Jeopoardy (you know that game show that doesn't give you a chance to phone a friend)

Moving right along... we chose to play on CarpeImperium's own server. CA being the challenged team picked the first two maps for a best 2 out of 3 style format. I had to consult the rules for this one, strange considering we have been on the ladder for months and never played an official game. Our first pick, Gearbolt, is about the only DOM map that we have come up with a good strategy on, and it showed. Ci was very impresive with the translocator. Props go out to my peeps Bornslinky who camped the "Lift" control point and always had the shieldbelt and would have been godlike forever had Ci not nuked him, and to Darkwulf who got really lucky and killed the whole other team once. Ci made some great pushes but just couldn't lock down the points for long enough. In the end CA was victorious but CarpeImperium had two more maps to prove themselves.

The next map, again our pick of Cryptic, was so much closer. Our team struggled to hold anything as Ci charged and translocated. Hawkeye aka the killing machine did a great job with the shock rifle and about mid game CA started to pull away with a small 30 point lead. Had fewer of Ci's team been on modems, this reporter feels the game could have gone either way. In the end, it was a great effort by both teams with CA coming out on top (just barely).

Final Scores - ???? , ?????

CA vs. LOD Our First Teamplay Match in UT Domination

Well we joined this Teamplay.net ladder site, thinking it would be pretty nifty to play some other games in addition to OGL matches, OGL matches taking at least a week to setup and play. Come to find out challenges in Teamplay can remain pending indefinitely. Well anyway in Teamplay we signed up for just about every different team game ladder for UT hoping to get some action.

There wasn't much we could do for this game, any hope of finding a neutral server was a lost cause. We searched the Northern Atlantic Ocean for a server perhaps halfway between us (Maine and England). Alas our quick search could not produce anything besides a fish or two . But the LOD chaps were great sports and decided to play on our server (with their modems mind you). The first and only game was on Cryptic (their pick) with Gearbolt (our pick) barely even played.

The ping disadvantage was just too much for them, as they struggled to hold just one of the 3 control points from Homer and Tippie. In the meantime Darkwulf and I held the other room containing 2 control points for most of the game. There wasn't really much strategy on our part until the second game and I'm so unfamiliar with the domination maps myself that I can't even remember the names of the control points. When Gearbolt started we quickly got our positions settled and locked down. Being clear that LOD would barely get any control points this round, the teams mutually called it off. It's too bad that domination isn't getting the attention or play time it deserves. The match was all in good fun and we just couldn't take the game as a victory, since our opponents saw most of the action a full half second after we did. Both teams decided to report as a tie. Perhaps someday when Iceland becomes a major commerce center to the world and they put a nice fat pipe through Reykjavik we can play these guys again. I'm afraid it won't really happen though.

Final Score - Tie
