CA vs. C1, 4 on 4, Phobos and Morpheus. Both matches played on C1's server, Official OGL Match

Well coming off a tight and very disheartening loss against MMSS we were kind of hoping we would get a chance to challenge up the ladder to redeem ourselves. Instead, with a ladder seemingly unwilling to yield us a chance to challenge upwards C1 challenged us and set us up for yet another chance to loose some rank. We knew from our experience against C1 in the past that they were definitely decent Death Match players, but we also had a good feeling that they weren't heads and tails above us. So with that in mind we took the challenge to our maps. We played Phobos first. We had only ever played Phobos once before in an OGL match but we had come up with a definitive strategy that we all liked and were just waiting for the chance to prove it. Well C1 came on hard, putting a tight control on the RL while we sought to take control of the upper parts of the map. We started edging them out in the first few minutes of the game and eventually our lead grew to a decent 20 points. Then, just slightly after the half way mark of the game C1 broke our control over the armor and they threatened to make a devastating comeback. Well we rallied and between Bornslinky, T-Toe and I we managed to lock down our terrain on the map once more and rode out the lead to win the first match. Props go to C1 for making our life hell everytime we died and were trying to get a weapon and congratulations to Darkwulf for playing the meat grinder position and not losing his cool. The second match was to be played on Morpheus, the map we like to consider our best map. We felt even more confident here, knowing we had won the first, knowing we got to play this match on our map, and knowing that if we won there would be no third. Well like every match we've ever had on Morpheus the plan was simple. Kill them. A lot. And so we did. They were by no means easy prey, and Cataclysm[C1] did an awesome job and kept up with us kill for kill, but from this player's perspective every time I ran into problems one of my clanmates was right there to back me up. Every time I was about to get nuked, it turned out to be T-Toe sending me into orbit, and every time I thought I was doing bad, we were winning as a team. We did great, everyone pulled their weight, and it was a great match for us. All in all C1 deserves a lot of credit because they did a wonderful job even though we had a ping advantage (on their server even). Good luck to them, perhaps one day we might get to play them in CTF (our preferred arena of play), but for now it's nice enough to get to compete with them on any level.

CA vs. MMSS, 4 on 4, Morpheus, Tempest and Zeto. All three matches on a neutral server, Official OGL Match

Since Mighty Mighty Smiley Squad was a completely west coast team and we being a completely east coast team we knew we would need a neutral server to have an at all even match. We both frowned on the idea of playing one on each of our servers, the home team just simply had too much advantage. So that decided, at the last moment N.Vader found a server that both teams were able to connect to with relative pings. The unfortunate thing was our pings were both awefully high. So we played first on Morpheus. We felt confident on Morpheus, after all we had never lost a single match on there and after a lag filled bout of Rocket Launcher spam and misplaced mini-gun fire we once again won on our map. Next we went to Tempest, a map we have been trying to nail down a definitive strategy on for some time now. This was easily the closest map of the three with both teams trading the lead at least half a dozen times and in the final moments of the match a CA team kill left MMSS with the one point lead they needed to win. A tight match, though we learned little about strategy once the pings started to sail. The final tie breaker map Zeto had been chosen by MMSS and they proved to be very strong on it. We tried to throw together a last minute strategy on a map we had never played together on as a team and predictably, that philosophy failed. MMSS played admirably well and in the end won the best 2 out of 3 to secure our loss for the whole match. It was a good game, I personally had wished we could have played on a better server for everyone, but any East vs. West game will have to deal with similar problems.

Final Scores: Morpheus: 42-35, CA Tempest: 75-74, MMSS Zeto: 109-73, MMSS

CA vs. AB, 4 on 4, Morpheus, Phobos. One match on a west coast server one on ours, Official OGL Match

We had decided to play one match on their server and one on ours since the pings had no chance of being fair in any case. It seemed like we had been having a long string of west vs. east matches and quite frankly it was starting to get old having to deal with ping differential. Well anyhow, in the first match we played Morpheus on their server. They had a decent ping advantage but Morpheus is our best map. We brought in our closet Deathmatch wizard Logstar for this game and it was a good thing we did too. His contribution along with a good combined effort from veterans T-Toe, Bornslinky, and Darkwulf brought what was easily the closest match any of us had ever seen to an even 49-49 when the final seconds of the game ran out. Then, no more than 10 seconds later one of AB's members managed to kill themselves and we pulled out a hair-thin victory to continue our perfect Morpheus record. We figured we were all set, we weathered the cross continental lag storm and ping disadvantage to pull through the win. Well for the second game I substituted in for Logstar (can't let him think he's THAT good =) and we prepared for a match where our pings would be much better than theirs on a map we really had never played. Well the match almost never finished. Apparently the combination of their ping disadvantage, our victory on the previous map, and the serious lead we had taken early on in Phobos left them quite upset and at the end of the match only two AB remained. Despite Bornslinky's valiant effort to quell their incessant whining by walking up to them without a weapon for a couple dozen deaths before deciding to leave (Thank's a lot =), they continued to complain and we did our best to convince them to just play the match and argue later. In the end they showed a lot of grace and just submitted the loss without subjecting both of us to the needless litigation behind contesting a match. They played well despite the server problems.

Final Scores: Morpheus 49-48, CA Phobos 86-58, CA

Summary of Matches thus far:

March 27, 2000 - CA vs. NV Won 2-0 on Morpheus and Tempest

These guys were really good sports and it was exactly the kind of match we needed after a very disappointing loss in our last TeamDM and our only loss in CTF. We did excellent and the stress relieved really meant more than the win.

March 22, 2000 - CA vs. C1 Lost 1-2 on Morpheus, Barricade, and Tempest

Well as everyone surely knows C1 is an incredible CTF clan, but we were unsure as to just how good they were in TeamDM. Well we came on strong in Morpheus and won by a considerable margin. Perhaps the overconfidence we gained there proved our undoing, but when we lead for 80% of Barricade and then let it all slip away in the last 4 seconds of the match when Acid[C1]'s redeemer left 3 of us dead and C1 with a 110-107 lead we knew we were in trouble. They had chosen Tempest as the tie breaker and we soon found out why. They stopped whatever momentum we had from Morpheus dead and left us behind at the end of this match. A very disappointing loss considering half way through Barricade we felt assured of victory. C1 gets props for a great game and we look forward to playing them again sometime.

March 14, 2000 - CA vs. NBK Lost 0-2 on Tempest and Curse

This was the first match we had where we learned just how important strategy was in TeamDM. Before this match we had simply existed off of raw individual skill in TDM. Well NBK would have none of that. They came on strong in Tempest and combined with a very valid strategy, handed us a tough to swallow loss. Then came curse, a map we later realized we were completely unprepared for. They came at us with shield belts and advanced damage, both of which we weren't even aware were on the map (show's how much DM experience we have). We put up a good fight on both maps, leading for times in both, but in the end our disorganization and inexperience combined with their notable talent left us with our first TDM loss.

February 29, 2000 - CA vs. BT Won 2-0 Morpheus and Barricade

Well for our first TeamDM match as a clan, it certainly was fun. We played well and won both matches, winning on Morpheus by more than 10 to 1, though the Barricade game turned out to be much closer. This gave us a good feeling for TeamDM, as we have been primarily a CTF clan until now.
